Reports from Kariong and Copabana RFS — An illegal pile burn at a nearby property on October 25 led to a bushfire at Lackersteen Rd, Somersby.
Around 40 crews from NSW RFS and Fire & Rescue NSW fought through the night to contain the blaze whilst NSW Police were required to control the traffic along Peats Ridge Road.
A skeleton crew remained on site overnight to monitor conditions and other crews returned the next morning to conduct patrols and continue blacking out operations. Around 13ha were burnt but no property was lost or persons injured.
This is a powerful reminder of what can happen when a pile burn gets out of control. Always follow safe burning practices, check local conditions and never leave a fire unattended.
Thank you to all personnel involved for your dedication and bravery.
Calga Mt White RFS reported that on 26/10/25, in the still hours before dawn, around 3am, Calga Mt White RFS crews launched by boat to reach a fire at Bar Point on the Hawkesbury River.
Working in tough terrain and limited access, our team was able to contain the fire and protect nearby properties.
A big thanks to our dedicated volunteers who always answer the call — day or night.
As we are now in the declared bushfire danger period, no fires are allowed without a permit. Getting a permit is free and easy. If your property is in a Rural Fire District, you can apply for a permit online from the RFS.
Note that local council rules and restrictions also apply so go online to check the Central Coast Council Open Pile Burning Policy.
