Andy Schneider (1/12/1962 – 4/4/2026)

The passing of Andy Schneider leaves a gap that will be difficult to fill across the many organisations, committees and community groups that benefited from his time, energy and practical wisdom.

While Andy’s contributions to local organisations have been well documented elsewhere, less widely known was his long-standing service as a volunteer Crown Land Manager for the Mangrove Creek Recreation Reserve. In this role, he helped oversee the care and stewardship of public land held for the benefit of the wider community, ensuring that the Reserve remained a valued recreational and environmental asset for present and future generations.

Like much of Andy’s community service, this work was undertaken quietly and without expectation of recognition. It reflected his belief that communities are strengthened by people who are willing to contribute their time and skills for the common good. The true measure of a community volunteer is often not seen until they are no longer there.

For nearly two decades, Andy Schneider contributed to the stewardship of the Mangrove Creek Recreation Reserve, helping to protect and enhance this valued community asset.

The role of a NSW Crown Lands Land Manager is to volunteer their time; manage Crown land on behalf of the wider NSW community; oversee public facilities, environmental values and community access; and help ensure the reserve remains available for future generations.

As the current board’s term eventually concludes, the Reserve will need new community-minded volunteers willing to continue this important work. People with an interest in conservation, recreation, community service or local heritage are encouraged to consider applying when future appointments are called. The local Crown Land Reserves in the Mangrove Mountain area include Mangrove Mountain Recreation Reserve, Mangrove Creek Recreation Reserve and the Mangrove Mountain Flora Reserve.
