Twelve of us met this month. As it was only two days to The Harvest Festival, much of the meeting was about planning for this yearly event sponsored by Central Coast Council. There was a request for more nighttime events, so our group organised “Twilight in the Hinterland” from 4-7pm and then our monthly markets on Sunday. Both events were successful with music, poetry, stalls, firepits and fire twirling! Thank you to the Scouts for looking after the fire pits, including roasting marshmallows, and thanks to the Girl Guides for running the craft stall. The June markets were the busiest ever!

• Next year will be the Historic Mangrove Mountain Hall’s Centenary, and we will be celebrating the whole month of April! Open Day will be Sunday, 11th April… so save the date. We will be running a survey to collect people’s memories and ideas soon.

• Council is holding a Youth Event at the Hall on 19th June between 3.30-6pm. It will start off as a free, open musical jam session and discussion to find out what young people want. We encourage all young people to take part.

• In April this year, we were all saddened by the sudden death of Andy Schneider. Andy was a valued member of our community, volunteering many years to the Mangrove Mountain Rural Fire Service where he rose to the position of Captain. I remember Andy as a volunteer at the Mangrove Mountain Country Fair, working together with his wife, Jodie Swan, setting up and decorating the hall exhibits. The community group decided to honour Andy with a donation to his favourite charity, the Wildlife Animal Rescue and Care Society (A.R.C.), a group of volunteers dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of injured, orphaned and sick native animals here on the Central Coast. May Andy always be remembered for the kind man he was.

• Our next meeting will be held on Thursday, 2nd July at 7pm @ the Mangrove Mountain Hall. Hope to see many of you there.

Council Information Session: Five community members attended an information meeting at the Wyong Council chambers on 9th June about Council’s Draft Local Strategic Planning Statement, which will guide decisions made for the next 20 years. Submissions are due by 24th July. This community group will be submitting one, and we ask everyone to also submit their own, stating what they see as the needs for our area — for example: the state of our roads; maintenance of verges including trimming dead branches; maintaining stormwater drains; more community facilities; bushfire safer places; housing; and tourism. You can view the LSPS and send your submission on Council’s website. If we don’t tell Council our needs, we will be ignored.
