Notes of our September Meeting

Our numbers were a bit down this month, but eight of us met to “solve the world’s problems” and celebrate our area.

Aliesha Carreno from Council’s “Community Resilience” joined us to advise on making this community prepared and resilient during emergencies.

Aliesha works before and after a disaster event. Council is writing a “Resilience Strategy” for our area. Mangrove Mountain is next on the list of areas to be done so should be available soon. The NSW Reconstruction Authority, together with Aliesha, will audit the Hall as a “Safer Place” on 2nd October. Aliesha will then engage with us to write an action plan for Mangrove Mountain and surrounds.

The Hall’s Centenary celebration is fast approaching. We will be interviewing community members face to face to record their memories of the Hall across the decades. Be prepared to share your memories and photos so we can publish a book ready for April 2027 !

A few of our members have met with Rural Seniors Voices to try and build a place where local seniors can stay close to family and friends and have their care needs met as appropriate.

We have written to Council to keep our area rural and agricultural and await their response.

Council has contacted us regarding the upgrade to the Mangrove Mountain public toilets. The septic plans are complete, and architectural plans will be ready in the next few weeks. We will meet onsite before the work begins and the upgrade should be done by the end of this year. Slow and steady but moving forward!

The Hall has supported some great shows, and this month featured the Backsliders. This show was sold out. We are lucky to have this calibre of performers coming to Mangrove Mountain.

The Hall now has a four-panel video wall with great clarity. We can have movie nights.

The Country Fair is fast approaching, and the Hall’s floor has been given a fresh coat of oil. Thank you Ryan.

We also need to spruce up the Hall, including painting, before its big birthday. We will be fundraising for this soon.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday, 1st October at 7pm at the Hall.

Join us !
