The Crossroads Garden

Dear Community, I think that we can all agree that our efforts to beautify the entry to our Mountain Districts has failed. The photos below show the ‘garden’ one year after planting it out.

The combination of poor preparation, weed inducing rain and heat and the theft of most of the plants has resulted in a huge area of weeds.

A group of volunteers has tried to manage it, but it proved too hard. Last week a group of workers from CEN (Community Environment Network) did a great job in slashing around the remaining plants. As you can see, the few surviving plants are growing well.

Unfortunately, at the end of that day the two signs advertising our local markets and Blues on the Mountain disappeared!! CEN did not take them and we would really like them returned.

So now we have to plan how to manage this ‘garden’. We have no more funds left. The weeds need to be managed and we need lots of mulch. We would also like to plant native grasses. I have written to Council to ask for help.

If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear from you.
