Mangrove Mountain and Districts Community Group – August Meeting

Six members and two visitors met last night to discuss many matters affecting our community. We discussed maintenance and use of the hall. This included fun things like the recent music events. Two sold out concerts featuring the legend Ash Grunwald as well as International Blues Day. What an honour to have this held on the Mountain! The Farmers and Artisans Markets were held and were successful despite the miserable weather. Things that are not such fun included unblocking a drain and having the septic tank emptied. Other important things addressed were: huge tree branches overhanging Peats Ridge Road, which we will contact Council to have them trimmed urgently. Choosing a logo to represent this group, we agreed on a design and look forward to sharing it with you next month. ‘Ageing with Dignity’ is a group with a vision to build a facility on the Mountain to cater for the elderly in our area. It will provide permanent, convalescent and respite care. It will be not for profit and be run by community. They are meeting with representatives of the Health Department to apply for a grant to make this possible. They need support from our community and will be at next month’s markets with information and a petition for you all to sign. If anyone has or knows of approximately two acres of land that could house this facility, please let us know. We are also writing to Council regarding the terrible state of the toilets at Mangrove Mountain. We need an answer as to why we are being pushed back and ignored, and a commitment to fix the situation. Our next meeting will be on 4th September at 7.30pm at the Mangrove Mountain Hall. Please come along. Tell us what’s important to you. We need everyone’s input to be a strong, vibrant community.
