Residents across the rural central coast areas continue to experience increased level of thefts and persons intruding their properties.
The following incidents occurred in the past two months:
- In Somersby, Wisemans Ferry Rd, two 15 litre bottles of drinking water were stolen from the front of a property after being delivered by the supplier.
- A resident in Calga village had a parcel stolen from their letterbox. The incident was captured on video and police are investigating
- Two lambs were stolen from a property in Peats Ridge, off Peats Ridge Road. They are not weaned and will need to be hand fed so check for anyone buying baby lamb formula.
- In Yarramalong persons were caught on security video entering private properties.
The incidents have been reported to police for investigation but no results have been reported.
Residents are urged to
- Keep an eye on your neighbour’s house
- Be aware of unknown vehicles in your area
- Keep implements and valuables out of sight and locked up if possible.
- Record serial numbers
- Use smart lights and other devices to create the impression you are home
- Consider installing security video
- Report Suspicious Activity
- Get to know your neighbours
- Start a Neighborhood Watch
- Spend time outdoors. Simply seeing residents outside and active in their communities is sometimes enough to deter potential criminals
- Make sure the community environment appears well-maintained
Research shows that rural policing is different from urban policing, requiring active community engagement to be effective. The impact of resource availability and level of crime results in lower-ranking officers often completing work that in other settings would be assigned to officers of a higher rank and/or from specialist units.
