Our Rocket Reading home reading program has started with a blast! Already, seven of our students are well on their way to an outstanding achievement – reading every night!
But why is reading so important?
1. Builds critical thinking skills: Reading encourages students to think deeply about stories, sometimes by solving a character’s problem. It strengthens their ability to see different perspectives.
2. Expands vocabulary: Reading introduces children to new and exciting words, spanning from imaginative language to scientific terms.
3. Boosts brain power: Neuroscientists tell us that the more we read, the more parts of our brain are activated — giving our minds a thorough workout with lasting benefits.
4. Reduces stress: In today’s fast-paced world, reading can be a relaxing escape that helps lower stress levels.
5. Develops writing skills: Good readers often become good writers, as they absorb language patterns and storytelling techniques.
