Central Coast Council has adopted its new Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2026-2030 (DIAP), outlining practical actions to improve access and inclusion for people with disability across the region over the next four years.

The plan was adopted by Council on 26 May 2026 and commenced on 1 July 2026. It builds on the progress of Council’s previous DIAP and reflects feedback gathered through extensive community engagement.

The newly adopted plan focuses on four key areas: developing positive community attitudes and behaviours; creating liveable and safer communities; supporting meaningful employment and independence and improving access to mainstream services.

Council Mayor, Lawrie McKinna said the recently adopted Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2026-2030 sets out achievable steps to help improve accessibility and inclusion on the Central Coast.

“The Coast is home to approximately 24,000 people with disability,” Mayor McKinna said.

“I believe that everyone has the right to feel welcome, included and able to access all aspects of community life.”

“The new Disability Inclusion Action Plan reflects what we have heard from the community and will help guide Council’s work over the next four years. It details the strategies and actions that Council is implementing to create positive outcomes for people in our community.”

Council Director of Community and Recreation Services, Melanie Smith said the DIAP provides a clear framework for how Council can continue improving access and inclusion across services, facilities and community spaces.

“The adopted Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2026–2030 is now available on Council’s website, including in accessible formats such as Easy English and Auslan,” Ms Smith said.

“We will continue working with our Access and Inclusion Reference Group, community partners and people with disability to support implementation and ensure our work is informed by lived experience.”
