From 1 October 2025, the Bush Fire Danger Period is in effect. During this time, a Fire Permit is required for any burning activity. Fire Permits are in place to ensure burns are conducted safely and responsibly, reducing risk to people, property, and the wider community.

Getting a permit is free and simple. If your property falls within a Rural Fire District, you can apply online via the NSW RFS website.

Before lighting a fire, make sure:
– It can be safely contained and controlled.
– It does not include toxic materials (e.g., tyres, plastics, paint).
– It will not create excessive smoke that may cause an air pollution issue.

If you have a Fire Permit, you must:
– Check for a Total Fire Ban — if one is in place, your permit is automatically suspended. Visit the RFS website for updates.
– Check for No Burn Notices on the EPA website.
– Monitor weather conditions closely.
– Follow all conditions listed on your permit.

Penalties apply for non-compliance. Play your part in protecting our community this fire season.
