With the recent spate of thefts in the area, as highlighted on the front page of May’s Community News, residents are urged to keep vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately to Gosford Police (4323 5999), Wyong Police (4356 6999), or Crime Stoppers (1800 333 000).
People are becoming increasingly frustrated by our weak laws and even weaker judiciary, who constantly release these criminals on bail, only to have them re-offend, because they know the penalties are so weak.
At Torrington in early June, two elderly residents were stabbed and, as a last resort, shot the intruder. Det Supt McKinnon is quoted as saying the 75-year-old was within his rights to shoot the accused in apparent self-defence (Chloe Maher in “The Nightly”): “A person is entitled to use reasonable cause to defend themselves, and this male had obviously received quite critical injuries up to that point.”
Many rural property owners in this area are also licensed to carry firearms for feral animal control, but should not take this incident as an approval to use firearms in self-defence.
