Weed Berries in Flower Arrangements

Local council weed officers in parts of Greater Sydney are noticing that floral arrangements with berries are becoming popular with reports of Cotoneaster, Ochna and Wild Tobacco stems being sold for flower arrangements.

Even though the regulations around the sale of foliage can be unclear, we can all do our bit to stop the risk of weeds being introduced to new areas via a bunch of flowers.

What can you do? Report any foliage with berries being sold to your local council weed officer so they can investigate and advise on whether it can be sold in Greater Sydney.

Avoid purchasing arrangements you know are weeds or berries or have berries you cannot identify.

Don’t dispose of arrangements with berries in your home garden or compost – place them in your green waste bin.
