I was amazed to see a sign in the Coast News that democracy may just be going to break through again, a member of the capitalist [privatise at all cost] party actually advocating for the less affluent in insurance.
I wonder is this an aberration or are the Lib’s actually intending to address the ever widening gap between the extremely rich and those who aren’t, ARE THEY REALLY LISTENING?
Page 4 of the Coast News reads ‘libs issue warning on campsite privatisation’. For many the opportunity to enjoy a holiday and still afford the basics is the opportunity to go affordable camping!
Privatisation always ultimately leads to higher costs, the rich get even richer, at the expense of the rest, greed takes over. Oh yes I know that the government can claim to balance the budget, but at the expense of ‘selling the family jewels’!?
Just look at the past ‘privatisation’ — electricity, telecom, child care, etc. None of them ultimately helped to narrow the gap, rather the reverse, and hasn’t ultimately helped the budget.
What with the cost of all the enquiries, financial cost and social cost to community, this policy of privatisation has been very expensive indeed. Government always ends up subsidising what which had been less costly in public hands.
I wonder, would a sensible reformed tax policy where all government charges were a % of income rather than a set amount would be fairer for everyone.
The more affluent would still end up with more but would carry a fairer share of the costs.
Am I dreaming or is this a sign that the upper house, or at least some of them, intend to do what the constitution intended, ie. protect the people from the idiosyncracies of party politics?
