November Meeting held on Thursday, 7th November.
Eleven community members met to discuss matters relating to our beautiful part of the world.
We are very pleased with how the Mangrove Mountain Farmers and Artisans markets are developing. The November markets broke the record with 50 stall holders and good attendance. Positive feedback is especially pleasing.
Leaving a review on the Markets Facebook page is a good way of helping get more recognition. The reality of holding these monthly markets is that a small handful of people put in a huge effort to set up and clean up. Help is always needed as “many hands make light work”, so please help if you can.
This community group (MM&DCG) will be having a stall at the next markets. We encourage all local community groups, across the whole district, to come and support this stall, and advertise what you do.
Our hall now has a photograph of King Charles.
We discussed how we would be involved in next year’s Harvest Festival. It falls on the second weekend of June, so does not align with the Markets. We are writing to Council to request an upgrade to the toilets in Waratah Road, near the hall at Mangrove Mountain. Council has already visited, and we are asking for the best possible outcome including flushing toilets, a non-slip ramp and facilities for parents as well as the disabled.
The committee is also liaising with Council to do work on the entry to Bloodtree Oval and the carpark as well as on the footpath and road shoulder on Waratah Road alongside The Hub. With many more visitors to the area, this work is long overdue.
We have had a request regarding the speed limit on Peats Ridge Road, from the start of George Downes Drive, past the service station to Peats Ridge Public school. We agreed that this section should be a 60km speed zone. This section of road is very dangerous at 80kms, and we agreed that it is an accident waiting to happen. This is not helped by the large number of trucks that not only travel on the road, but park along it, greatly reducing visibility. We will be writing to Council and to the West Ward Councillors.
Our committee is also concerned with the number of trucks on our roads, and the large amount of fill being delivered… some on watercourses.
Do you have any concerns, or are aware of any repairs or maintenance that needs to be done? We would like to compile a list to present to Council so that they know of the works needed here.
This is YOUR community group. Please come along to our meetings and contribute. We meet on the first Thursday of each month at the Mangrove Mountain Hall, at 7.30pm. Our next meeting will be on 5th December, and we will be celebrating Christmas and the end of 2024. Do join us.
