Pest Animals Update – Feral Deer

Feral deer are a growing problem throughout Australia and are becoming increasingly abundant in our region. They cause environmental, social and economic impacts and are extremely difficult to manage in urban and peri-urban settings. Feral deer are moderately distributed throughout the Greater Sydney region, including the Central Coast, Hills, Hawkesbury, Penrith, Liverpool, Camden, Campbelltown, Wollondilly and Sutherland local government areas. Although every landholder is responsible for managing pest animals on their land, several ground control programs are currently being funded by Greater Sydney Local Land Services in the Macarthur, Kurrajong and Cattai Creek areas. If you are in one of these areas and are interested in being involved in a program to control feral deer, contact [email protected] for more information. Check out this online Glovebox guide https://www.feralscan.org.au/docs/CISS-Glovebox-Guide-Feral-Deer-final.pdf to managing deer for information on how to manage the impacts of feral deer.
