Embank stabilisation at Greengrove
Central Coast Council advised:
We’ve completed repairs and betterment works at more than 40 sites along Wisemans Ferry Road at Spencer and Gunderman. Works started in 2024 following multiple severe storms which triggered landslides, rockfalls and ongoing lane closures. Thanks to $28.3 million in Australian and NSW Government disaster recovery funding, we’ve been able to not only restore this vital connection for our community but build stronger infrastructure to better withstand future natural disasters. Two traffic lanes are now back in operation, improving traffic flow and safety. And the 15- tonne load limit has been lifted. We know these works have taken time and we thank the community for their patience. To continue strengthening the road for the long-term, we’ve secured an additional $8.99 million for further stabilisation works at Greengrove. These works began in February and are expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
Most of the stabilisation has been achieved by “Soil Nailing”. Soil nailing is a method where steel reinforcing bars are inserted into horizontally drilled holes and anchored to the soil by grouting. Later, reinforcing mesh is fixed over the protruding nails and sprayed with concrete to seal the embankment surface. Hopefully these works are a long term solution designed to cope with the increased pressures of climate change.
