May I add my story to the many anguished cry’s from the folks living in the Mountain districts regarding the NBN & Mobile signals?
We live on Wisemans Ferry Road not far from our local store. (fantastic, try it out, great coffee) We attended a forum put on by NBN at our local hall, at my request they agreed to do a survey of my place, two days later a technician spent two hours trying to find a signal, the best he could do was from the Somersby tower which would need a tall mast near my front gate & underground cable to the house, no mention of cost!
I then contacted my internet supplier and after much discussion they advised, and I quote “Maybe your best bet would be to stay with the copper wires” (Landline Phone).
The internet signal thru the phone lines is incredible slow but very reliable.
My Mobile signal is only one bar (if I’m lucky) I can get, but not send text, if I answer a call or try to make one it just drops out, however if I walk to my front gate, sometimes I get two bars!! Thankfully I have a landline.
When we moved to Mangrove Mt 20 years ago our problems were less than 10% of what they are now.
Let’s now talk about why we are in such a “communications mess”, it is of course about the almighty dollar, put simply, not enough customers in a given area, go to Gosford, plenty of mobile signal, everybody happily browsing etc, why, plenty of customers, this info came from the NBN technician who was willing to have a chat.
So here we are nearly 52 years after watching Neil Armstrong walk on the Moon.
Makes one think, what’s going on doesn’t it?
