Phone and internet on ” the mountain ” —– what a joke !
Where to start ??????
In the mid 1990 ‘ s we had better mobile phone coverage than we do today — that’s what we call “progress” ( that was with analog phones and now we have digital, only much better if you have service, worse if you don’t !)
Let me tell you about a couple of “episodes ” — I have a business at Somersby, three minutes off the M1, I have to stand at the front door of the business to have semi reliable mobile phone connection as it doesn’t work inside (would you believe I can see a Telstra tower from the front door — yes my service? is with Telstra !)
Early last year the internet to my business and others in the area was switched off (for maintenance) at about eight am and back on at night leaving my business, which relies on internet for parts lookup, ordering and invoicing, with NO internet, this went on for about THREE months WHAT THE !?#&*% ! —- and of course you can’t contact NBN to complain , all I got was messages saying the outage would be extended for another week from my telecommunication provider. Really helps small business —- NOT
Then before Christmas the area was hit with a major lightning storm and of course the phones went down —- Somersby again and while I do understand that things like that do happen, my business had NO fixed line phones and sort of unreliable mobile private phones for another couple of months!!!
All this and we are only 15 minutes from Gosford , 1 hour from Sydney and Newcastle —- BUT WE ARE WEST OF THE EXPRESSWAY and therefore we don’t matter !!!
We seem to be LUCKY here — little to no phone service — little to bad internet service — little to no council services — some of the worst roads on the Central Coast (yet council want to keep robbing us for higher rates ?)
Through all these “episodes” I have been in touch with my telecommunication provider (think I might change my provider) Telstra , The Ombudsman, local members — all full of promises but no action — so who do we contact to rectify any or all of these problems?
Thanks for listening — maybe one day someone will actually DO something positive not just promise to do it.
